If you’re a gamer, then you’ve heard of the steambox. This is Valve’s answer to the xbox, ouya, etc.. offering gaming in your living room.

They’ll be announcing something today at 10am Pacific time on their announcement page here: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/.

Text on the page is:

Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads.
This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room.
Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.

Supposedly, this will be console type system running Linux.  I’m hopeful that this will help to propel Linux more into the limelight!

They announced their SteamOS Linux distribution!  More info here.

  1. I’m not sure I have high hopes for SteamOS, not after seeing their controller (do not like). But I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve actually come up with for the OS.

  2. I think it is definatley worth a shot and hey…..at least steamOS is free, so if it sucks…oh well. I think SteamOS will be awesome for Linux. Buy stocks now. You can download it here fast and free. http://SteamOSdownloads.com
